National Nonprofit Petco Love Invests in Good Cat Network to Save and Improve the Lives of Pets in Hawaii
(Grant will help rescue animals displaced by Maui Wildfire disaster)
Makawao, HI (August 25, 2023) – Good Cat Network is set to receive a $10,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for displaced and community cats on Maui. Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $370 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations like ours across North America, with 6.7 million pets adopted and counting.
“Our investment in Good Cat Network is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We recently launched Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses pet image technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”
The August 9th Maui wildfire disaster has been proven to be the most deadly in modern U.S. history. The disaster has devastated an entire community, making it uninhabitable. Organizations like Good Cat Network help to ensure there is space to house displaced and injured animals.
“In the wake of the disaster, we felt a responsibility to maximize our Operation Aloha Cat program, a transfer program that flies adoptable cats to transfer partners in the continental U.S.” said Darlene Rayhill, Executive Director of Good Cat Network. “We are focused on getting as many adoptable animals off island as we can, so that we and our partners are available to take in more displaced cats. This would not be possible without support from our donors, partners, and this generous lifesaving investment from Petco Love.”
Good Cat Network is a Maui-based nonprofit that works with foster partners to reduce the number of community cats on the islands by flying them to shelter partners on the mainland. Founded in 2021, it has helped over 540 adoptable cats and kittens find loving homes since its inception.
