Flame was rescued by a fisherman at Mala Wharf in Lahaina in 2017. He was a tiny flame-point Siamese kitten, around 4 weeks old, visibly sick and starving, wandering around the dumpsters.
He was taken to Maui Homeward Bound, a non-profit animal rescue organization in Napili, Maui, founded by Melody Law.
For five years, Flame was fostered at Melody’s home and eventually became a foster dad to all of the other rescue kittens that came through the organization.
Flame’s calm and friendly demeanor won over all who met him. He taught many foster kittens to be cuddly lap cats after bring rescued from the streets.
Despite Melody’s urge to make Flame a “foster fail”, she felt it was time for him to have a forever home. So, she contacted Good Cat Network to request that he get entered into the Operation Aloha Cat Flight Program.
Good Cat Network collaborates often with Maui Homeward Bound for the program, in which Hawai’i cats are flown to partner shelters in Washington State.
Earlier this month, Flame became an official Flight Cat and was flown to Seattle Humane for adoption.
Meanwhile, Brian and his partner Sam decided that it was time for their very first cat. They had been cat-sitting at a friend’s home for some time and wanted to “take the leap” in giving a home to a rescue.
They were specifically looking for an adult flame-point Siamese. They were interested in adopting an adult so they could help a cat have a second chance at life.
When they saw Flame on Seattle Humane’s website, they knew they had to meet him. It’s no surprise that when they did, they were instantly won over.
They found him to be a calm, sweet boy who adored getting scratches. Seattle Humane staff told Bryan that cats flown from Hawaii through Good Cat Network were famously well-socialized.
Bryan shared some kind words with us:
“I’m really glad your organization is doing what you’re doing because we’re already in love this little guy and without you, that wouldn’t be possible.”
Flame also has a new name to match his new life: Oslo! Oslo’s life is picture-perfect in Washington State. He enjoys sitting in the window, watching TV, and snuggling with his parents in bed. He still brings happiness and a smile all who meet him.
Special thanks to Melody at Maui Homeward Bound and Bryan and Sam for sharing his rescue story.
