Who is Have A Nice Spay for?
Have A Nice Spay is for individuals who cannot afford spay and neuter for their cats. We offer a free kit-n-kaboodle: spay and neuter, ear-tip, FVRCP vaccination, microchip with registration and flea/dewormer. If you’re able to afford appointments elsewhere, please refrain from using this program.
ALL CATS receiving surgery will be ear-tipped. See more on tipping below.
Our appointments are for pet, friendly cats only – ones that you can pick up and put into your personal carriers. Traps are not accepted.
Cats must be at least 8 weeks old and weigh at least 2 pounds to be eligible for surgery.
If you are financially constrained and care for cats that need to be trapped and sterilized, please contact our non-profit partners Kitty Charm Farm or The Rusty MauiCat Collective who specialize in trapping and can help provide guidance and education Have A Nice Spay and other spay and neuter services available within Maui County.

What kind of carrier should I bring my cat in?
Domestic pet cats must arrive in an appropriate carrier proportionate to the size of the cat. Pillow cases, bird boxes, etc. are NOT acceptable.
The carriers need to be labeled with duct tape. The duct tape (instructions in next step.) should include your last name and the name of your cat.
To reduce stress for your cat, please cover your carrier with a towel large enough to completely cover your carrier. Do not use a blanket/large fabrics as it might cause volunteers to trip while transporting your pet. Do not include any toys in the carrier as they may get misplaced during the process.

What should I put on the three pieces of duct tape?
There MUST be three pieces of duct tape for each animal – one on the carrier and two on the towel. Each piece of duct tape should include your last name and the pet’s name.

How should I prepare my cat for surgery?
Cats should be fasted the morning of surgery. This means dinner the night before is fine, but no breakfast the morning of the clinic. Water is okay to leave out.

What should I expect when I make an appointment?
Once you make an appointment, you will need to verify your identity by following the prompts via the text or email. Once verification is complete, you will receive a QR code for your appointment. Bring your QR code (via your phone or printed) and your cat in an appropriate, labeled, towel covered carrier, at your designated time, and our Intake Ambassadors will assist you with check-in.
You will receive a reminder text and email as well. You can modify or cancel your appointment using the link in your confirmation email/text.
Remember – emails might go to SPAM, check your spam/junk folder for both the QR code and reminder emails.
Use your home address when making your appointment. Note that you may be asked for an ID to verify your address at check-in.

What happens to my cat after I drop them off?
First of all, your cats are in the best, most capable hands. Rachel Zawacki, Clinic Manager has many years of experience running spay and neuter clinics, and we hire high volume, skilled HQHVSN (High Quality, High Volume Spay and Neuter) Veterinarians to perform the surgeries.

Oh! What’s an ear tip? Glad you asked…

What’s an ear tip?
Tipping a cat’s ear serves as a universal visual indicator that a cat has been spayed or neutered. Our medical team removes only 1 cm of the cat’s ear while the cat is under anesthesia.
Due to the requirements of the grant received from JR Peterson Foundation, ALL cats receiving surgery at Have A Nice Spay must be ear-tipped, whether they are a pet cat with a life indoors, or living as a community cat outdoors. This is different than other spay and neuter programs and there are NO EXCEPTIONS.

How do I know when to pick my cat up?
You will be receiving a notification when your animal is ready to be picked up. We are not able to estimate pick up times and are finished when we are finished- sometimes as late as 7pm. We appreciate your patience and cooperation! Post-op surgery discharge instructions will be going home with your cat(s).
For any post-surgery concerns, please text the number on your discharge paperwork.
Please do NOT call Maui Humane Society, as they are not affiliated with this event and won’t be able to assist you.
